Peter and Roberta Motz started the company in 1985. Peter has a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Michigan State University and is a Michigan Certified Nurseryman.
The business is located 4 miles north of St. Johns on US-27,then ½ mile mile west on French Road. The office is in a 114-year-old brick one room school house that Peter attended as a child.
Plum Line Specialties
Plum Line specializes in landscape design, planting and construction. Brick paver walks and patios are specialties. Retaining walls of boulders, treated timber and segmented concrete units are all within the company's scope of activities.
Many trees are grown in our 1.5 acre nursery. Improved varieties of crabapple, maple, locust, linden, birch and hawthorn are used in designs. Trees, shrubs, perennials and ground covers arrive in fresh condition on a weekly basis from quality growers all over the Midwest. Plum Line keeps on top of what's hot and what's not in plant popularity. Plants go in and out of fashion much like clothes and furniture.

The Process
The process starts with a phone call or an e-mail. We set up an appointment to visit your home. Typically a landscape design is necessary. We return about a week later with a completed landscape design on an 18"x24" print that shows bed lines, plant locations, patio layouts and specifications for your home. We also provide an estimate for doing the work. There is a design fee, but this is credited back with completion of the work by our company. There is no charge for the initial visit. Give us a call.
